Vegan On A Budget

Hi everyone! Something I am told often is, “I can’t go vegan, it’s way too expensive” or “Not everyone has the money to be vegan.” While there are definitely some expensive “luxury” vegan items, being vegan is actually really affordable and simple. We have been on a budget since we went vegan partly because we started as college kids and partly because there’s no need to spend a lot of money on vegan groceries.

Here is my sample grocery list using Kroger prices in the Atlanta, GA area. We like to shop at Aldi or Trader Joe’s because it saves us so much money, but not everyone has an Aldi or Trader Joe’s so I chose to base the prices on Kroger’s website as I feel like it is closer to everyday prices at common stores. I do not suggest using this as your grocery list as it is just a sample to show the affordable options that we buy often. You do not need to buy everything on this list every week. We generally spend between $60 and $70 per week for 2 people. Sometimes, we spend even less which is what I’m always aiming for. Our goal is to eat healthy, but also we are really picky about all of our meals being delicious. Once our quarantine is over, I plan to make a video showing how I shop, exactly how much I spend, and where the different items are in the store.

  • Sara Lee 100% Whole Wheat Bread – $2.99 (I just chose the first one I saw that was dairy free, but we buy Dave’s Killer Organic Whole Grain and Seed Bread for $5.79. It isn’t ideal for a low budget, but we are able to stay on our budget buying this)
